The Special Air Service Regiment (SASR)was formed from the SAS Company
on 04 Sep 1964 and added to the list of Australian Army units on the
ORBAT.It is understood that the SASR was classified as light infantry
and therefore not entitled to receive regimental and Queen's
Colours, however, the regiment may receive the Sovereign's banner from
the Queen or her rep and may also receive banners from other members
of the Royal family.Could this entitlement be confirmed and what are
the necessary procedures to be followed noting that the Regiment is
under command of the Governor General who is the Commander in Chief,
and is a unit under full command of the newly formed Special
Operations Command.
