Can you help me find professional organizers of a family's photos and
memorabilia in my area (Westchester County, NY)? After 2 deaths in my
family, I've received several boxes of photos, very old to recent, and
need help with choosing albums, setting up labeling, copying for
others, possibly some cataloguing, and organizing the contents of the
boxes, etc. I need to make a separate scrapbook of one of those
lives. And find suitable frames for some photos, followed by help in
placing some of those on a wall. I think there are people who do this
professionally, but I don't know how to find them.
Thank you. |

Dear 0528marigold,
I have sent emails to about 1/2 dozen scrapbooking consultants in your
area. Their main job is to provide classes and supplies for the tasks
you describe. I have asked each of them if they know anyone, or would
be willing themselves to work with you in more intimate detail.
I will let you know what type of response I get, and you can then let
me know if that is the type of help you are looking for.

Thank you, Peggy. You do understand the question. I'm willing to
hire someone to come into my home and work with me to get this job
done.
One woman I spoke to said I could bring a shoebox of photos to her
house and she would make them into a scrapbook. That might help a bit
after the big job of organizing, sorting, deciding on materials to
use, is done, but it's only a tiny part of the job. I have many boxes
and shelves of photos of many generations of our families, back to
1900 and even a few before. It may take some of the organizing skills
of a librarian, and someone who knows about archival paper, labeling,
etc. And someone who is willing to take many photos to stores for
copying for other family members, after figuring out the best place to
do that at a reasonable price, and then helping with the mailing. Do
you use one method to copy color photos, and another for old black and
white photos?
I could learn and do all of this myself, but am short of time. I hope
to find someone who already has the knowledge, and then I can help
with the doing of identifying photos, etc.
Who do wealthy families use to do this?
Thanks so much,
Pat

Dear 0528marigold,
I don?t know if I understand the extent of the problem or not. If I
were in New York, I would offer to come help you myself. But as I am
nowhere near you, these are the options I have to offer. I have
contact information for two scrapbooking professionals in your area
who are interested in discussing your problem with you. They may not
have any more to offer than the woman with whom you have already
spoken.
However, I have also found a web page for an organization in New York
of professional organizers. The web page has contact information for
consultants in New York, but I don?t know how close any of their
consultants would be to you. It says that their organizers work very
individually to help you solve your particular problems. I don?t know
if they generally do all of the tasks you need, or not.
Let me know if either or both of these options are of interest to you.

Peggy, I wish you were near enough to help!
Maybe the organizers would be a better bet than the scrapbookers, but
I'd like to talk to both. Perhaps the organizers would know of the
right people, or take on the learning part (not difficult),
themselves.
Just studying the catalogs of the 2 companies that supply materials
for albums and cataloging, would help a little with learning. That's
where I began when I started about 10 years ago, but unfortunately
stopped. The quantity of materials has gone from manageable to
overwhelming (to me). And I very much want the job to be done well,
to leave as a legacy for my children and grandchildren.
I appreciate any further assistance you can give.
Thanks so much,
Pat

Dear Pat,
I wish you the best of luck with this project. Your grandchildren are
lucky that you have such forethought. I do wish I could come help you
with it myself. But, barring that, I hope these resources will be of
use to you.
First of all, here is the web page for the National Association of
Professional Organizers in the New York area.
http://www.napo-ny.net/
They will provide you with contact information for three professional
organizers within or near your zip code.
These next two web pages are NAPO-NY referral information.

Then, for equipment to organize and protect your photographs, you can
go to Creative Memories
http://www.creativememories.com/persconnection.asp?GID=0
They are a very organized group with excellent materials for
photographic preservation. They also have consultants all over the
country. I contacted 6 of them, and received messages back from two
of them. Hopefully, one of these two can help you either buy your
supplies for your personal organizer, or they themselves can help you
to organize your photographs.
