Question ID: 307255
I have a couple of servers with linux on them.I dont have physical
access to these servers.
I would like detailed instructions on installing windows server 2003 on these.
I have windows 2003 on a couple of these servers so even an image
might work.. But I need more information.
the whole process would have to be remote.. No physical access at all.
Detailed and quick answer please.
The servers run redhat enterprise linux.
Thank you.

Are you asking how to replace Linux with Windows Server 2003, or are
you asking how to have it coexist under emulation, VirtualPC or a
similar arrangement?

I havn't experimented with 2003 much, but I know that in win 2000 AS,
Windows can do some pretty advanced remote install procedures. Are
you talking about a LAN install, which is relatively easy, or an
internet based install??

Internet based install.

You can put the image in a partition, mount it, configure lilo to boot
win2003 by default from that partition after 5 secs timeout and
reboot.. I can explain better if you feel this can be your point (once
you are in win2003 you won't be able to go back to linux remotely).

You can do the image with Norton Ghost, for example. In fact you could
even do an image with cat /mnt/cdrom > cdrom.iso. Also you can make
the image with some prog like ultraiso. In linux you can just mount
the image in a partition, by telling /etc/fstab where the image is
located, and the filesystem in it (iso9660 for the cdrom). Once
mounted, just edit lilo to point to it and then you can reboot using
that image.
