All of a sudden something changed. Any time I use the keyboard, in or
out of programs, it does not matter when this happens: after 3 seconds
of no keyboard input there is a dingeling sound, a note starting high
and going down is the best way to describe it. It is a window type
sound. It drives me nuts! I am using XP Home, Dell Inspiron 8500. Dell
has no idea except reinstall XP (not going to happen, I rather go back
to Win2000 but hope I don't have to do that). Deleting keyboard driver
and let XP reinstall it, no good. Is there a way to force xp to import
a new driver rather then reusing the existing one? Dell says the
driver is part of xp. It does not do it in DOS, so not a hardware
problem. Help!?

axel_wg...
I would suggest going to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
-> Sounds & Multimedia, and reviewing the sounds associated
with the events there. See if you can locate the sound you
are referring to, and see what event it is associated with.
Let me know where that takes you...

Hi axel_wg,
Just a thought - have you checked for spyware?
Ad-Aware:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
Forum: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/
If it's still making the sound after running Ad-Aware, you could try HijackThis.
HijackThis:
http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites: HijackThis:
"Editors Note: Since HijackThis does not (yet) come with a install
routine, create a folder via Windows Explorer for HijackThis, then
move the zip file to this folder. This way any backups created are
saved in a legit folder. I've seen too many instances where the user
runs HijackThis from a temp folder and any backups are lost if that
temp folder is cleaned out. You should also make sure you are using
the latest version each and every time you run HijackThis, as there
are new detection added all the time.
- Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".
- When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a
"Save Log" button.
- Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log") HijackThis Tutorial
(recommended read)
- Next, go to: http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/
- Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
- Press "New Topic", copy and paste hijackthis.log into your new message.
Visiting the SpywareInfo Forum or one of the other recommended Forums,
to finish cleaning up your system is highly recommended. As neither
Ad-Aware or SpyBot can no longer completely remove these pests. This
is mainly due to new daily threats and the use of random generated
filenames used by these parasites!"

Good luck - please let us know if anything works,

I accept the answer from "sublime1-ga", I uninstalled the driver for
my touchpad, restarted computer and the problem is solved. Well and
quickly done 'sublime1-ga'.
How do I initiate payment now?
Axel.
P.S. I submitted the question twice because of an expired credit
card#, now I don't know which one is the bad one. let me know if it
works or not.
