Halibot is a defunct service that allowed you to retrieve information
via email. See http://www.entrepreneur.com/mag/article/0,1539,285627,00.html
You could compose a message with keywords, and it would send you a
reply with the information requested. For example, you could send
"BOS-LAX" to fares@halibot.com to receive a list of low fares from
Boston to Los Angeles. You could access over 100 different information
topics, such as cooking recipes, almanac data, driving directions,
restaurant locations, weather, sports, population statistics,
dictionary lookups, biographical entries, and even biblical quotes.
My question: is there a service like this? It can be a fee-based
service or free. It must support more than just basic news, stocks,
sports and weather. It should not be an alert system. It should not
require a web browser to pose a question, just email send (for the
question) and reply (for the answer). It must operate over email for
full credit (e.g. a service that uses SMS will be partial credit.) |
