I can set my default dial-up connection in Control panel, but when I
run IE6, it resets the default to NONE. This only happens with one
user - all others are normal.

Have you tried setting up the connection in IE, rather
than in Control Panel?

I've set up PlusNet as my default dial-up, using IE6. This worked for
some time, then one day I found that auto-dial didn't work any more.
On investigation I found that the default connection was now 'None' In
IE6, I reset it to PlusNet, using the Tools|Internet Options tabbed
control. When I exit the control, then re-enter, the default has been
set back to 'None'. I exit IE, reset the default using Control panel,
restart IE6 and, guess what? It's set back to 'None'. All other users
on the machine have no problem.
I create a new user, and this has no problem, either. I've tried
deleting all cookies, done a virus check using the latest reference
file from ProtectorPlus, but to no avail.

Perhaps you will have better results if you use the Internet
Connection Wizard, located as follows:
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Connection Wizard\icwconn1.exe
Let me know whether that helps.

This is not a new connection. I've been using it for years! It's just
that one day, IE6 suddenly decided that it would not accept ANY
DEFAULT dial-up connection. It will dial any connection I ask for, but
will not set a default.
I've had PlusNet as my default dial-up for years. This is not an issue
with the connection, since IE won't accept any connection as default.
It's also only an issue with one user on this machine.
