Hi there...

I'm compiling a report on all the different types of speakers there
are. Like outdoor, weather proof, concert, satellite, computer,
laptop, surround, touring, etc. I'm looking to get a full
comprehensive list of all the different types of speakers that exist.
Also - I'd like to know the top 10 speaker manufacturers for these.
If you feel I didn't price this appropriately, please let me know!

thanks!
joe

Neilzero,

Thanks for pointing that out! Actually, I just want to know the ones
in existence NOW. I'm interested in what people would be searching
for online...and what speakers are available for purchase these days.

Thanks!

joe

Hello Joe,

It's possible, at one search site that I know of, to examine the
frequency of searches done on the internet for a given concept. For
example, searching on "speakers" will return a list of all search
terms related to speakers, along with how frequently the search term
has been used. The first few entries look like this:

102956 speaker
 99959 motivational speaker
 24933 wireless speaker
 19416 car speaker
 19058 computer speaker
 15189 outdoor speaker

You can see that the term "speaker" has more than one meaning, but
that most of the results pertain to your interest about different
sorts of audio speakers, and the types of searches people use to find
them. The numbers indicate how often the search term was searched for.

Should I post instructions for getting the full list (of about 100
search terms) as an answer to your question?

Let me know.

Hi pafalafa-ga,

Thanks for your time - no thanks though. I'm already familiar with
where you're getting those results from...I wanted something much more
detailed.

Joe

"there are" implies you are interested in experimental speakers built
up to a century ago, one of which may still be in existance. Other
than these rare units, speakers have changed little in the last 80
years. Stronger magnets being the main improvements, and horn type
speakers being the main exception. Neil

Can't be bothered to answer the whole question, but flat panel
speakers have started to be developed (see.. http://www.nxt.co.uk)
they are relatively new but have been installed in public address
systems that i know of (train stations, Birminghams National
Exhibition Centre, UK) and from the look of this website they are
becoming available for household use. Matt

Acoustic wave speakers (Bose wave guide) have been one fundamental
change in speaker technology in the past 40 years.

The Flat Panel website below does not appear to exist but there is
some information on domestic flat panel speaker systems at the
following URL: http://www.sound-light-company.co.uk/loudpanel-flat-nxt.htm
