Staincliffe --

Assuming that you're using JPGs to do it, it will be dependent on
resolutions chosen:
2560x2048?
1280x1024?
640x480?

And the answer will also be a range, as the compressibility of each
image depends on content.

Best regards,

following co is in the business of scanning negatives, and
transparencies, and provides some file sizes based on the quality of
the images. there is also a note that low resolution images are not
recommended for transparencies, so your choices are high quality jpeg,
or ultra qualty bmp files. there are some listed file sizes, which
appear to be huge for single images, but this might be reality for
ultra high quality archival/ reproduction. the jpeg format is not
lossless, and not sure about bmp. if bmp is lossless, then that is the
best way to go. divide your total useable cd media capacity by file
size to get an idea of how many files of the desired type that can be
stored on that specific media.

here is a sight that discusses *.png file format as an alternative to
*.jpeg, and *.bmp files, and states it's more universal as well. this
is known by those that put images on web sites, w/ *.jpeg being more
universal, and *.png being newer:
