In which year were League Matches last played on Christmas Day in the English Football Leagues? 1953,1955,1957,1959,1963,1965,1967,1969,1973 or 1975. I need the answer by 10pm on Friday 20th of February. Thanks. |

It seems that the answer can be no earlier than 1965. According to the following Flash web page -- if you go back in the calendar to 1965 -- Blackpool defeated Blackburn 4-2 on 25 December 1965. This calendar also indicates that there were no Premiership matches on Christmas Day in the following years up to 1975. "FlashStandings" PremierSoccerStats http://premiersoccerstats.com/flashstandings.html Unfortunately, this page gives historical data for the Premiership only. Perhaps someone can find similar data for the other English leagues. |
