How about: 1890 Forth Bridge Opens. See this site: http://www.dunfermlinepress.co.uk/bygone_dunfermline/1859_1907.htm Note the caption under the picture: "The cantilevers of the Forth Bridge, hailed as the eighth wonder of the world, are about to clasp over the waters of the Forth in 1890." This could go along with the other hint given regarding 7 W of the W |

I vote for ac67-ga's answer. I'm also a bit peeved 'coz my great-great-great-uncle was the guy who built it (with a little help from others). http://www.geo.ed.ac.uk/home/scotland/forail.html There are two Forth Bridges - Forth Road & Forth Rail, but in 1890 the rail bridge was the only one, so it would've been simply called the Forth Bridge. |
