This 10year old + Gateway Solo 2500 laptop was previously working,
until recently, on power on it starts up but will not go pass
post(manufacturing and version page). I have pressed all the possible
function keys to go into setup (F2, F8, esc, ect), but no response.
Further more the CD ROM acts as if it is spinning but stops after a
while. Nothing will boot from the floppy. What are you suggestion? |

Hi Soccernut,
Does the laptop make any beeping sounds
as it is trying to go thru POST?
If so, how many and is it in a pattern?
Anything like this?

How do you feel about "going into your
laptop"? Most POST errors are going to
be hardware of some sort.
A few preliminary things you can do,
remove the CD-rom (if removable). See
if that might have gone bad. Try booting.
If the memory upgrade path for your
Gateway is as simple as removing a
panel on the bottom, see how many
memory chips are in there. If there
are 2, remove 1, try to boot again.
If that doesn't help, remove that 1
put the other in. That can help if
1 chip is bad (provided you have 2)
let us know,
