Simply, yes. Neuralgia -- or nerve pain -- comes in many different forms: It may be sudden, shooting, sharp, burning, or stabbing, and is sometimes accompanied by a background sensation of burning, itching, or aching, or by hypersensitivity to touch. It occurs in one part of your body, typically on one side. Postherpetic neuralgia follows the area that was affected by the shingles along the distribution of the specific nerve. The pain may come and go or be continuous. It can last for days, weeks, or longer. If the left side of your body is more affected by your shingles than say the right it would be logical for pain associated with this disease to be more intense on the left side. Be wary however, leg and/or foot pain that may not be associated with shingles could be indicative of circulation or other nerve problems, especially if you are diabetic. A quick call to your physician may be wise. (sources: webmd.com, tager's medical reference) |

lina2: As a non-diabetic paraplegic, shingles and pressure ulcers are both topics of experience with me. The following descriptions are from personal experience. Please see you doctor ASAP to confirm for treatment. Shingles generally display iching, burning sensations in the early stages with welts or red areas very obvious. These initial symtoms progress to extremely painful, extremely itchy, welts. Shingles hurt like the dickens. There is treatment for shingles to reduce pain. Discoloration from shingle outbreaks can last for a considerable time. Pressure sores are a very serious occurence. They often start out as a itchy spot which may develop into a very small sore spot...Get it taken care of right then..do not hesitate even a day... I hesitated....bad shape.. See you docotor ASAP with either of these occurences...NOW Good Luck Seedyb |
