Apparently statistics for 2003 have not yet been compiled. Below are
some figures for 2002:
"Developers sold about U.S.$9.4 billion in timeshares during 2002 on a
worldwide basis. Sales of U.S. timeshares represented fully $5.5
billion of this, fueled by strong growth among the leading companies.
Europe and Latin America together accounted for most of the remainder,
although Asia and Australia both showed renewed growth signs after
several years of static or declining sales. Globally, the average
price of a timeshare purchased from developers was about $10,600 per
week in 2002, but varied significantly by country, product tier, unit
size, and other features."
Ragatz Associates: Worldwide Timeshare Summary
http://www.ragatzassociates.com/docs/Worldwide%20Timeshare%20Summary%20Mar%2031%2003.pdf
"The U.S. timeshare industry continued its strong growth record in
2002, with sales volume up better than 14% to $5.5 billion, despite
weakness in the overall tourism and travel sectors due to the economic
recession and aftermath of September 11th. Nearly 1,600 U.S. timeshare
resorts serve 3.0 million households, who own about 4.9 million weeks
or the equivalent in points. In response to consumer demand for
flexibility, points emerged as the most common use plan now being
sold... Some 1,590 U.S. resorts offer timeshares, or a total of more
than 5,400 resorts worldwide. In the U.S. the industry offers more
than 132,000 timeshare units. Florida leads by a the states in number
of resorts, followed by California and South Carolina... Despite
strong sales, fewer than 3% of all U.S. households own a U.S.
timeshare. The market penetration rate of timesharing increases with
higher income, as might be expected of a discretionary product,
reaching over 7% among households with incomes of $100,000 or more.
This still leaves plenty of room for growth, however, with over 20% of
all U.S. households with incomes of $25,000 or more indicating some
chance of purchasing a timeshare within three years."

Organisation for Timeshare in Europe: 2002 worldwide timeshare figures
http://www.e-wizz.net/ote2/en/statistics/
"Net sales of timeshares increased 10.8 percent to $3.9 billion from
$3.5 billion last year, according to Scott D. Berman, an analyst for
PricewaterhouseCoopers. Continued growth is expected this year, but
the percentage increase is expected to be in the single digits when
new numbers are unveiled in June, he said.
'Barring any major or specific terrorist threats or acts against U.S.
interests, both lodging demand and [revenue per available room] will
increase 3 percent from prior-year levels in the second half of 2003,'
he said...
Steven S. Miner, director of research for ARDA, said the 1,590
timeshare resorts in the United States continue to represent strong
industry growth. Sales of the top 25 companies increased 17 percent
last year. With more than 3 million owners who have bought 4.9 million
weeks, Miner said most of the market is untapped. He said resales are
increasing, accounting for 15 percent or $390 million of total
revenue."

From a report specifically about Canadian timeshares:
"The average Canada timeshare travel party spends $975 in the local
community during their vacation, or $119 per day. Spending in local
communities by the 95,000 owners of Canada timeshares and their guests
totals about $98 million annually. In addition, Canada timeshare
owners pay an estimated $56 million each year to maintain and operate
their resorts, much of this spent in local resort communities."
