In the area of fine arts. Looking for any information on a sculptor
named Leo LaPorte Blairsy. I have a 6 inch statue of a little girl in
a long dress holding a Chinese doll in her arms, made of bronze, over
copper. I have had her since 1935, and she was purchased by my father
at an antique store in Scarsdale NY at that time. His signature is on
the work, and the foundry cast signed as well but illegible. I
suspect artist is not American. Child's clothes look to be Ca.
1880's. Can you help me identify the artist and date of work?

Dear ralaw-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting question.

LEO LAPORTE BLAIRSY, who was born (disputed) 1865 or 1867 and died in
1923, is known for his functional yet decorative pieces, especially
where lighting is considered. He is alternatively listed in some
catalogues as ?Leo LAPORTE-BLAISIN?, and by some Italian catalogues as
BLAIROY. In modern times he is looked upon as an artist of the fine
art deco and art nouveau genres. Born in France in 1865
Laporte-Blairsy is most noted for his 1910 design of La Fontaine
Belle-Paule, one of the Fountains of Toulouse, located at Concorde and
Falguière streets in Paris, France. His works of art have been sold by
such notable auction house as Christie of New York and continue to be
widely sought after.

LaPorte-Blairsy is listed as LaPorte-Blaisin by ARTPRICE.COM and you

Some of this works, such as this 'La Fee Au Coffert' table lamp at
$18,000 (US) are quite exquisite and have significant investment,
collectible and market value:

I cannot begin to appraise your particular piece but suffice it to say
that if is it an original item and not a reproduction, and it is in
excellent condition with original patina intact it is a true prize. It
was most probably produced near the turn of the 20th century and is
likely worth several hundred to several thousand of dollars. If the
sculpture by this particular well-known artist is a relatively rare
but known piece, or a heretofore unknown piece which can be
authenticated, it is conceivably worth many thousands of dollars, but
again, only a qualified appraiser could verify that for certain.

Dear ralaw-ga:

Thank you for your kind words. I am elated to have been able to assist you.

Helpful hint: The tip option is only offered one time - at the time of
the final rating. Since yours was not recorded when time you rated my
answer you will not be charged whatever additional amount you intended
to apply unless you open a new question. Nevertheless, it's always a
pleasure to be able to inform someone about something special like
this, especially when it means so much to them.

If ever you need me PERSONALLY, you are welcome to new question, and
in your subject line request me personally (example "Question For
Tutuzdad Only"). I will respond to you the moment I see it. Otherwise,
without the special request, any researcher may handle your needs.

I look forward to seeing future questions from you and I'll do my best
to help if I can.

Regards;
tutuzdad-ga

Sorry, what I meant to say was:

"If ever you need me PERSONALLY to work on a future question, you are
welcome to POST A NEW QUESTION, and in your subject line request me
personally (subject line example: "Question For Tutuzdad Only"). I
will respond to you the moment I see it..."

Again, I look forward to it.

I am absolutely THUNDERSTRUCK! In 24 hours your researcher has found
more information than I had EVER hoped for, and the fact that my
possession may well be worth much much money! This is my 2nd "rate
answer" to you...I submitted the rating, and added a tip, and will do
so again, because I am unsure what happened when I hit the "submit"
rating square, the screen went crazy and I found myself back in my In
box mail of outlook express. Therefore, I am leaving the tip box on
this 2nd go round blank until I know if you received the first, or
this, the second, or both!
