Can you be more specific about your location, such as naming the city
or town you are in? The street number assigned to your property may be
changeable if there is enough space left in the city's numbering plan
to accommodate. In some locations, numbers are assigned based on the
side of the street you are on (odds vs. evens), and sequentially or
with gaps in-between. So, depending on where your house is located,
the number might be changeable to 11 or 15, as long as there is not
already a house with that number next door!

Please clarify your location, and I may be able to help.

it is a newly built house, and a new street. there is only one side of
the street, the street number are all even numbers, so if what you say
is true, that means i can change my house to any odd number since
there is not
already a house with odd numbers next door? the town i live is
markham, ontario canada.

thanks

Unfortunately, as imhotep1-ga has mentioned in his comment, the answer
is that you can only apply to change your house number to another odd
number that would still be between the numbers of the neighbouring
properties adjacent to yours. In my own observations of Markham
developments, the properties are numbered sequentially with no room
for any changes whatsoever.

The even numbers are reserved by the township for the properties
across the street from you, for whenever they are eventually
developed. As you are on a public street, street numbering is the
jurisdiction of the township.

If you wish to make an application to change your house number, first
you will need to confirm that there is indeed an available number
between the numbers of your neighbouring properties, and that conforms
to the requirements of the township. The easiest way to confirm this
is to contact the township. You can find their contact info at the
following URL:

Most likely you will not be able to change it to an even number since
all houses on your side of the street must be in odd numbers.
You can probably have the odd number close to yours between your house
and the next house, e.g. 15) having the higher number unless you have
a vacant property (without a house and no previous house, i.e. no
assigned address) next to you then that would also be a factor.
Go to your local City or other govenmental agency having jurisdiction
in issuing building permits and ask for the procedure in address
assignment.
