If you go to:

www.newspaperarchives.com

and type [ Rossback Pegler ] into the search box, you'll pull up
snippets of quite a number of articles written by the latter about the
former (who, apparently, he didn't like at all!).

If you want to see the actual articles though (which is a lot of fun),
you'll have to subscribe to the service. I can post details of how to
do this as an answer to your question, if you'd like.

Cheers,

Hello Mimi,

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you "can't open"...

www.newspaperarchives.com

You should just be able to click on the link above, or else enter the
address in your browser address bar to get to the site.

Once there, just enter Rossbach Pegler in the search box, and you
should see a page of results the first few of which look like this:

==========

Some of it is pretty gibberish looking, but don't worry...the actual
articles themselves (when you can access them) are clear.

Before you can actually see the articles, though, you have to register
at the site (by clicking the REGISTER button at the top of the page).
This is much like registering at Google Answers, before you can post
a question here.

Once registered, and after having selected how you want to pay for the
articles, you should be able to access any article of interest.

You will need to have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer in
order to read the articles though. The Newspaperarchives.com should
test your system to see if it is Adobe-reday, and if not, will walk
you through the process of installing it.

Hope this is all making sense. Give it a try, and let me know how
things work out.

Boy...do I feel sheepish!

You were right, of course. The link I posted (and then reposted!)doesn't work!

I posted the wrong address -- I added an extra "s" -- and you have my
apologies for asking you to try something that wasn't going to work,
no matter how many times you clicked on it.

The CORRECT address is:

http://www.newspaperarchive.com

Let me know if that gives you any problems.

P.S. Please note that the website today has a message: "SCHEDULED
MAINTENANCE: 3-4PM CST. Website services may be interrupted." So be
sure to try it at sometime before or after their planned outage.

Mimi --

You might wish to see the William F. Buckley article in the March 1,
2004 copy of The New Yorker. It mentions that there's little about
Pegler online, though Pafalafa has given you an excellent source.

The article notes that the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library, in
West Branch, IA, has the Pegler archives. Also that he had two
biographers, Finis Farr and Oliver Pilat.

Best regards,

would be a good place too start- that is after increasing your list
price to something worth the researchers time!
