Some years ago in college, perhaps in a philosophy class, I was given
a written copy of a definition for "good" as it pertains to (thought
and)action in the world. It had three criteria and was from a renowned
thinker (Fromm? Maslo?).
I would like the author, criteria and source. Thank you.

I believe you are thinking of the work of the ethicist C. L.
Stevenson. I found an excellent short pdf document outlining his
emotivism at http://www.csun.edu/~dp56722/460l4.pdf .
