Is Berlin still formally occupied, and if not, when did the Allied
occupation of Berlin formally end?  My memory is that it was still
nominally/legally occupied when I was there in 1987.

Hello,

Good question! From the following links I establish that the date was
1990. See the WWII Timeline link below. Then from the United States
Office of Personnel Management, they narrow the dates of occupation by
listing qualifying operations for veteran status. According to their
website linked below, the Army Occupation of Berlin was from May 9,
1945 to October 2, 1990.
