Sharon~

There are variety of reasons you could have a salty taste in your
mouth; the two most probable are:

1. The medication you're taking may make your saliva salty. Check with
your pharmacist to see if this is a known side effect, or try taking a
different brand of medication.

2. You?re dehydrated. Make sure you're drinking enough water each day
(caffeinated drinks don't count).

Other possibilities include:

3. You may have sinus problems; in particular, post nasal drip can
cause a salt taste in your mouth. Check with a doctor if you have any
sinus pressure or drainage.

4. Although it's unlikely, you may be overproducing tears. (Our bodies
constantly produce tears.)

I cannot find any reliable medical source that claims a salty mouth is
a symptom of thyroid disease; however, many people with thyroid
disease *crave* salty things, so perhaps that's what your niece is
thinking of.

Kriswrite, the answers were good. However, they are the same ones I
got when I was looking on the net. None of them apply to me. Thank
you anyway, Sharon
