I need cost estimates for the costs of producing a full-fledged
webcast of between five and ten minutes, including video recording,
editing and post production, creation of streaming media and HTML
page, and hosting. At least three sources are required.

Actually, I am already producing these type of webcasts for my
company. What I need is cost information on getting a third party to
do the full production, so I can compare how much we save by doing
this in house (or how much we could save by outsourcing the whole
process, if that way proves cheaper)

Our company has less than a 1,000 people, and this would be the
potential audience. But as the webcast contains confidential
information, it should not be available to the general public.

I am not currently interested in outsourcing, I just want price
information (even ballpark pricing is OK), so I'd prefer not to make
several personal contacts for this information unless absolutely
necessary.

Hi! Thanks for the very interesting and important question.

Since most webcast production companies do not explicitly show their
prices articles on cost estimates will be of help here.

According to the article "Reaching Out to IT Professionals with
Webcasting" the costs could range from $2000 to $7000.

easterangel,

Thank you very much for your research! I suppose I should have
mentioned that we are doing video webcasts, and am most interested in
the prices for those. Since the one source you quoted had a rather
wide range, do you know if there is at least one more source out there
for video webcasts? Thanks.

Hi again.

If you are interested in video webcasts, the folllowing articles will
be helpful in arriving at an estimate.

According to the article "Web Spinners" Video Webcasting could be as
much as $8000 and archiving for 30 minutes would cost you another
$3200.

In a paper for webcasting specifically dedicated to the accounting
industry, TVAccounting.com video streaming alone costs between $2500
to $3500.

Are you wanting to hire out to a 3rd party to do this for you?
Or are you wanting a price for a package that would allow you to do
this yourself?

It's actually easier than it seems if your wanting to do it yourself;
I've done it quite a bit.

Be careful, if it is the first time you have attempted anything of
this nature there is a learning curve involved. Also the cost is very
closely related to the number of viewers you wish to reach. The
greater the number, the greater the cost, in most cases. You may also
want to consider giving a bit more information. This will likely
increase to accuracy of the estimate. Consider things like audience
(who and how many), the goal of the broadcast (commercial,
entrainment, etc.), and platform (what kind of quality are you looking
for, could you do it with a web-cam or do you need a production
camera). These will determine the equipment and the software, if any,
you may want to consider :)
