How do I start a premium insurance audit/inspections business?
Specifically, how do these insurance services companies solicit
customers (the insurance carriers)? There are hundreds of these
insurance "services" companies in the US, they perform premium
insurance audits (worker's compensation, payroll, gross sales, etc.)
and/or underwriting inspections (to access conditions of or damage to
commercial properties) for the insurance carriers. These companies
usually have a small office staff (less than 10 office employees), but
they will have a large number of independent contractors in various
states completing the audits and inspections. The audits and
inspections are completed in the field as well as by telephone. I am
interested in starting such a business, but I have no idea how these
companies get the work from the insurance carriers. For example, is
there a database or something where insurance services companies can
register, or do the service companies contact the insurance carrier
via phone or letter, etc..
