Hi,
I'm a 34 year old male, relatively new to San Diego CA, and I'd like
to get a really good list of those possible San Diego clubs, groups
and organizations that I could join which would be the most helpful in
meeting single women around my age or a few years younger.

I would especially be interested in any ones related to dogs, perhaps
volunteer opportunities in that area. I'm not as interested in
organizations focused on playing sports.

An example organization that I found is called the Athletic Singles
Org. (http://www.athleticsingles.com). Though I'm not very interested
in playing organized sports, this club does seem to be largly focused
on singles meeting other singles, so I'd consider joining it and
participating in activities.

Any insight you can give me on the costs of joining these clubs would
be appreciated too. For example, the Athletic Singles org. I
mentioned above doesn't say how much it costs to join, but I suspect
it might be pretty high, as they give away a nice gift if you come to
their potential memebership meeting.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Hello, thesandiegoguy-ga!

Here are some groups that look interesting. The "Single Volunteers of
San Diego" sounds like a great organization and you could fit your
love of dogs right in there by organizing your own group volunteer
activity.

SINGLE VOLUNTEERS OF SAN DIEGO
==============================
http://singlevolunteerssandiego.org/

"Single Volunteers was envisioned as an alternative to bars, personal
ads, blind dates and dating services for singles to meet while
performing worthwhile and productive services in the community.
Volunteers are notified by e-mail about project opportunities, and
teams of volunteers are assembled on a per-project basis. Individual
team size is usually determined by the scope of the project. At the
completion of any given project, a friendly social gathering is
usually held at some unfortunate nearby pizza parlor or like
establishment, where stories and introductions are passed around."

"Everyone is looking for quality in a partner. People who freely give
of their time and energy to help others are generally some of the most
quality people around!"

"Projects cover a full range of activities and there are activities
for everyone. Examples of some projects are helping plant trees, beach
clean-ups, repairing low income housing, graffiti clean-ups, passing
out food during the holidays and so much more. There will be a project
that you feel comfortable with where your talents are needed!"

* (Note the mention of "Animals" under the project event leader coordinator needs)

smoke-filled rooms. And you do get to see people at their best...and
worst."

"Think you've got to be a great golfer to join? Not So! Our average
(nationwide) handicap is 20. We have some who occasionally shoot in
the 70s, but most of our members shoot in the 80s and 90s. We also
have our fair share of those who haven't broken the century mark
yet...so don't let that discourage you from joining, we all had to
start somewhere. The most important factor is that you're committed
to the game and are willing to try to improve while having fun doing
it."

There are several singles religious groups if you are affiliated with
a particular religion. If you would like, I can try to find one if you
have a particular faith.

Another Group to consider is Adventures in San Diego (www.SDfun.org).
Although it's not a "singles" group, most of their members are single.
They have a wide variety of events - both sports and non-sports. They
do have "pet-friendly" events.

One method that I don't believe others mentioned is trying an online
dating service. Contrary to popular belief, these sites aren't filled
with desparate folks who simply can't find a date anywhere else.
Instead, you will find a wealth of personalities, and some really
wonderful people. Plus, most sites have there members divided into
Casual Dating, Romance and Intimate. So, whether you are looking for a
friend or serious relationship, you should be able to find someone
quite easily in the San Diego Area. Check out
http://www.local-singles.us/dating.html. Gives an overview of some of
the larger dating sites available.

One final thought - similar to the above post, another non-singles
group that will nonetheless allow you to meet many professional women
without the meat-market feel is www.aroundtownsandiego.org
