I am looking for the title of a French film. It was in color, and I
did not recognize the actors. Probably produced in the late 50's or
1960's, but could be as late as 1980. It was a comedy about some
British? or American? pilots who were forced to make an emergency
landing, or parachute drop over France. I believe it was set during
World War II, and featured the French Resistance. The pilots had a
plan to meet up at the turkish baths, and were supposed to recognize
each other by whistling or singing the tune "Tea for Two." However
they both were detained and had to send a replacement -- leading up
to two complete strangers in towels whistling "tea for two" in the
turkish baths. One pilot ended up in a school for musicians, and I
believe one of the musicians, (a violinist) was his replacement at the
turkish bath rendez-vous.
I saw this film on video when I was at Stanford in 1994, but I believe
it was much older. It was in french, with English subtitles -- except
for the pilots who spoke English. I seem to remember the title was
two words, "La" or "Le" and the second word was probably 3 or 4
syllables -- and my vague memory is that it meant something like
confusion, or messing up, or debacle.
There might have been a cow involved, somehow -- but this is not a
certainty.
I tried looking in the online library catalog at Stanford to see if I
could come up with it again, but no luck. I have also searched
http://www.imdb.com.
Sites in french, while not ideal, are okay. I would like to have a
site with pictures, or some information about the film, but a library
citation would be adequate.
Thanks!
