I have a small plastic camera (www.unibrain.com) that is quite
hideous. I want it painted professionally with several coats,
including high gloss finish, in the same fashion that automobiles and
some computer cases are painted. I would like a list of 2-5 e-mail
addresses and/or websites willing to provide me with this service in a
reasonable timeframe, at reasonable cost.

jdegoes-ga:

Your best option is to have a local auto-body shop paint this for you.
That way there is no shipping cost, shipping delay, or possibility
that the actual color and finish are not to your specification since
you will be able to approve it in person before the job is performed.

In order to help you, therefore, it would be useful if you could tell
us where (what city) you are located in.

As well, you may actually want to consider simply buying a few
canisters of automotive spray paint, and doing this yourself.

In any case, you will need to completely dissassemble the camera
before you paint, and you are best advised NOT to paint the plastic
around the lens; the risk of getting paint onto the lens is just too
great. I notice as well that there are vent holes in the front panel;
whoever does the painting will need to use a fine mist to avoid
plugging these holes.

If you do decide to paint it yourself, start by thoroughly cleaning
the disassembled plastic pieces, first in warm soapy water followed by
a good rinsing, then with rubbing alcohol and a lint-free cloth. You
need a good clean surface. You will then want to use some primer (the
type specified for plastic bumpers), a couple of good base coats of
your chosen colour, then some clear-coat for that glossy finish.

Good luck!

I am located in Winston-Salem, NC, but work in Durham, NC. Your advice
is very helpful. I hope you can find someone who is willing to take on
such a small paint job as this, and has the necessary tools (fine
misting???). Thank you.
