How much of a refutation or defense would you require for this? Would
you need online references as well for support?

See Ecclesiastes 1:9 and 1:10, in fact much of the first chapter. And
the gist of the book. Tough to say whether Dryden's statement is
supported or disproved by science. Tough to say, actually, whether
Dryden's statement even can be stated as a question in science.
Probably not; this seems a problem of definitions, meta-propositions,
and Popper's idea concerning falsifiability.

Certainly Dryden's assertion is within the current of Judeo-Christian
thought, as noted.
