See Ecclesiastes 1:9 and 1:10, in fact much of the first chapter. And the gist of the book. Tough to say whether Dryden's statement is supported or disproved by science. Tough to say, actually, whether Dryden's statement even can be stated as a question in science. Probably not; this seems a problem of definitions, meta-propositions, and Popper's idea concerning falsifiability. Certainly Dryden's assertion is within the current of Judeo-Christian thought, as noted. |
