Am looking for details of the average IT spend as a % of total revenue
for Irish companies in different sectors. We operate in the FMCG
sector but am also interested in other sectors for
comaprison/positioning. UK market info. also of interest. Also keen to
understand what is in the IT Spend figure (ie. operating overheads,
project costs, capital spend etc.)

Regards.

IThead --

I've done quite a bit of IT spending analyses, particularly for the
U.S. and Canada. Here's a good example:
"Industry benchmark for IT spending" (Omnivorous-GA, May 5, 2003)
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=199713

IDC, Gartner Group and Meta Group are likely to have proprietary
reports on the Irish IT market. I can identify those for you and note
how much they cost. However, unless you've seen summary breakdowns in
local publications, it's far more likely that you'll get published
percentages from the Internet only for the U.K. Is that adequate?

Best regards,

Omnivorous-GA

Yes, UK data links will do. I can always purchase the relevant Gartner
report if necessary.

As an addition to Omnivorous' request for clarification above, I can
confirm that IDC does produce an annual review of the Telecom and IT
sector spend for Ireland specifically. Ireland is one of Europe's
hotbeds of telecom and IT growth. It is pricey, though: the 2003
edition, released in July 2003, sells for US$5175 for a 151 page
report.
