One of the problems with getting older is that your brain simply can't
hold as much memory detail. This is a drag when I'm trying to remember
where or when I saw certain bands. I have gone to hundreds of shows in
my life, and while the memory of each event and the energy of the show
stays with me, the exact details are getting blurrier and blurrier as
I get older.

Here's my (current) memory problem. I saw the Chemical Brothers play
somewhere in Northern California either in 1995 or 1996 - likely in
San Francisco, but possibly elsewhere in the Bay Area. If it was 1995,
they may have still been performing as the Dust Brothers (before the
"real" Dust Brothers made them change their name). I saw them at a
club, not an amphitheater or any type of stadium event. I can't
remember who they were playing with, but I do remember the club was
packed.

The real kicker is that my friend who I went with has since passed
away, so I can't even ask him about the show.

I'm not sure anyone will be able to answer this for me, but it's worth
a shot. I don't need a thousand links or any in-depth history of the
Chems, I just want to remember where I saw them play.

Hello.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you saw them at the
Trocadero, 520 4th Street (@ Bryant), San Francisco.

"The Dust Brothers" played there on January 19, 1995, and "The
Chemical Brothers" played there on June 21, 1996.

Another possibility would be the Warfield (982 Market St, S.F.) on
November 22, 1996.

However, the Warfield is a THEATER rather than a "club," so the
Trocadero seems to better match your description.

search strategy:
google groups:
"chemical brothers" "san francisco" (1995-1996)
"dust brothers" "san francisco" (1995-1996)

I hope this helps.

Yeah! There's no way I would've remembered the Trocadero. They closed
in '98 and now it's the Glas Kat. That's where Bondage-A-Go-Go used to
be, too, before they moved it to the Cat Club five years ago. And just
this January BAGG moved BACK to its original location. All these
memories...

Now I just have to remember if I saw them in January or June, hee hee.

Well, thank YOU, Juggler! In fact, now that I think about it, it had
to have been the June show, because I know it was NOT with Crystal
Method.

This memory problem caused me much grief last night, and for whatever
reason, I never thought to check Google Groups. Having an answer makes
me feel young again :-)
