smwein-ga:

Forbes Magazine compiles a list each year of the Top 100 Celebrities
in the World, rankable by income. For 2003, the highest paid athlete
(including endorsements) in the world was Tiger Woods, at an est.
US$78.0 million worth of earnings. Please note that his endorsements
alone account for $70 million of that:

The second highest paid athlete is Formula One driver Michael
Schumacher. He earned $35 M from his contract with Ferrari, and
another $40 M in endorsements.

You can also check out the results from 1999 through 2002. For
example, in 2002, Tiger Woods ($69M) was again the top ranked athlete,
and again Michael Schumacher ($67 M) was second.

Go back one more year to 2001, and Michael Schumacher ($59 M) leads
the list of athletes, with Tiger in second at $53 M.

In 2000, Michael Schumacher, at $49.0M, again led Tiger ($47.0M).

And finally, in 1999, a different Michael, namely Michael Jordan
($69.0M) spent his last year at the top of the athlete's list; Michael
Schumacher was second highest at $38.0M.
