Thank you for this opportunity help you with your Question.
The number one selling type of alcohol on a global basis is beer; this
is especially the case in the US, where beer sales make up >50% of all
alcohol sales, followed by wine, then spirits. A useful look at this
is a report from Anheiser-Busch:
http://www.progressivegrocer.com/progressivegrocer/profitguides/beer/images/pdf/overview-supermarket-03-q3.pdf
While this is based on grocery market sales, it is a good
representation of the total market in the US. It is also backed up by
the monthly production numbers recorded by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax
and Trade Bureau of the US Department of Treasury:
http://www.ttb.gov/alcohol/stats/index.htm
Unfortunately, their data is not consistently up to date across all
categories, so I cannot base a list on it.
Within the category of spirits, it is possible to refer to several
websites, including the one referenced in cfoster70-ga's comment
below. It is also possible to reference market research, such as:
http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/m0BQE/1_11/63835769/p1/article.jhtml
which documents a survey taken in 2000 of over 800 bartenders across
America. Some of the findings include:
-----
excerpt from: "Drinks Most Likely to...", Cheers Magazine, Jan 2000
"According to the study, Jack Daniel's (22%), Absolut (13%), Bacardi
(10%) and Jim Beam (9%) are the four most often requested brand names
in bars, restaurants and taverns surveyed. The younger the bartender,
the more popular was Jack Daniel's, said the bartenders. Bacardi
showed great strength in the suburbs. Other brand info: Crown Royal
shows strength in the south.
The study also determined that rum and Coke (named #1 by 30% of the
bartenders surveyed) is the most popular mixed drink across all
restaurant segments. Vodka and OJ (23%) was named the most in the
northeast. Jack Daniel's and Coke (11%) garnered higher marks in the
midwest and south, while Margaritas are the most popular drink when
taverns are not included in the mix.
For straight shots, tequila (21%) laps the field. Schnapps (7%) and
vodka (5%) are the next most often cited. Oddly, tequila was cited
more often by bartenders in the west (28%), northeast (25%) and
midwest (22%) than the south (14%)."

Websites that maintain lists of their most popular requests include:
That's The Spirit - Food Network Canada
http://www.thatsthespirit.com/en/drinks/popular.asp?display=100
Webtender.com
http://www.webtender.com/statistics/
Both of these websites also provide recipes to these popular drinks,
linked directly off of the lists.
My personal favorite drink recipe website of all time, though, is the
one maintained by DrinkBoy:
DrinkBoy:Adventures in Cocktails
http://www.drinkboy.com/index.html
The reason it is my favorite is because the recipes are available as
an AvantGo channel for download onto my PDA! Useful for parties.
You originally asked for a list of the 'most popular alcohol drinks'.
I can safely say that the first two items on that list would be '1.
Beer; 2. Wine'.
However, for the myriad of cocktails and mixed drinks that would
follow, it is best for you to refer to the article above, and/or the
two websites with 'popular' lists. These lists, unfortunately, do not
match because they simply reflect the preferences of the people who
have visited them in the past, much as the article simply reflects the
preferences of the people visiting the bars where the interviewed
bartenders work.
I hope that this information is useful to you. Please let me know

part of this Answer explained, prior to rating and closing the Answer.
