Is there a way to find out who is better and more successful with
cases like me (midlife)?
Thanks

Clarification of Answer by umiat-ga on 09 Mar 2004 07:50 PST
Hi, dbdc-ga!

While I do not think you can identify which counselors will be best
for someone like yourself without talking to them, there are some
indications to look for. I tried to single out some of the counselors
that seemed like a better fit for you, but I would still make a
personal phone call to their office, briefly describe your situation,
and ask if they work with clients like yourself. Most times, the
receptionist will be able to tell you if the counselor works with
adults in your situation.

Here are some of the reasons I picked certain counselors:

Andrea Papa - seems focused on personal exploration.. "she addresses
the many issues that may impede the career decision-making process and
empowers clients to develop a greater level of self-awareness to
identify their career niche, while applying a holistic approach,
ensuring that all facets/roles of a client's life are considered for a
realistic plan of action."

Chloe Z Clark, Ph.D. - has a background in psychology and has a focus
on identifying the barriers to success - "mid-life transitions,
confidence and self-esteem issues."..My style is proven, direct,
no-nonsense, supportive and understanding and is geared to achieving
results."

Kera Greene - Uses a novel approach with NLP and has a background in
Psychology. "Certified in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), a tool
for taking more control over your life. NLP is a model for changing
ones attitudes and behaviors quickly, and for identification of your
attitudes/beliefs that keep you stuck."

Hal Flantzer - has a psychology background and allows for telephone
counseling (therefore, you could identify in an initial phone
consultation whether he might be helpful)

Eileen Sharaga, MA - has a unique approach, really prods you to
explore your personality and talk through your interests.."I am able
to identify career paths and job titles that most people don?t even
know exist."

==

If you believe you have more of a psychological impediment which is
preventing you from working, however, you may want to take on a
different route at first. Identifying a career goal will be
ineffective if you think that there is an underlying psychological
disorder that needs to be addressed (especially if depression might be
an issue). In that case, a good psychologist or psychiatrist may be
more helpful initially.

If this is not an issue, please do not take offense at my suggestion.
However, if you would like me to explore some of these types of
avenues in a further question, I will be happy to do so.

Sincerely,

umiat

YOU ARE RIGHT ,PLEASE HELP ME FIND A GOOD PSYCHOLOGIST
HOW DO I PAY YOU ,SINCE THIS IS A NEW QUESTION?
THANKS

Hi, dbdc-ga!

You can direct a new question to me, simply titled "For Umiat."
Please include any and all specifics in the new question that you can,
so I can be most efficient in answering. For instance, I remember from
an earlier question that you have gone to Chiropractic School, but I
don't know if you ever put that knowledge into practice. Have you
worked at all? What seems to be the major impediment? Can you pinpoint
any particular emotional or mental barriers? What, exactly, do you
feel (from a gut instinct) is the major problem and what might help.
Have you ever had any psycholocal evaluations?
Anything you can include will be helpful in forming an answer. I look
foward to doing whatever I can in the form of research for you.

Clarification of Answer by umiat-ga on 09 Mar 2004 10:43 PST
One other point, dbdc! Please keep in mind that a researcher only gets
75% of the price posted for the question. You might want to decide how
in-depth you want me to go in researching an answer, and then price
the question accordingly. I point this out only because I believe
customers are often confused about the price offered versus what the
researcher actually gets paid. Most researchers will gladly put their
"all" into a question, but often run up against hours versus price.
