Question ID: 31338
How many software titles are released per year, overall? Preferably
I'd like to know the number of titles released in 2001 and the percent
increase that represents since 2000. However, a cite-supported number
of the *average* number of titles released per year would also be
useful.

If possible, I'd also like to know how that number of titles breaks
down by category (i.e. 5000 finance titles, 12000 edutainment titles,
8000 game titles...)

[Note: I am referring to packaged software titles only, not enterprise
software, shareware, or computer accessories. ]

Please only answer this question if you can find exact numbers
supported by research; I have already found plenty of "guesstimates"
online, and they are not helpful. Thanks!

* Clarification please *

Um, that's a rather broad question...
Would you like to include porn and XXX #'s?
Do you have a run limit? Like, omitting titles
that were made in less than YY amount? Would you
like to provide the title breakdown for us?... it
would help. Do you want titles that only a
small customer base would care about? You
know... 5 figure graphics apps, etc.

thanks

As I said, packaged software applications. To spell that out, any
software application that might make it onto the shelves of a very
well-stocked software store.

The music industry has rudimentary title and sales information via
SoundScan point of purchase technology. I'm talking about something
similar with regards to the consumer software application market.
