your Beige G3 hardware and OS configuration. Updates include
Communicator 4.77, 4.79, 4.80, and Navigator 6.x. The versions
considered most stable are:

Communicator 4.8 was released in 2002, more than two years after the
initial release of Netscape version 6.x previews. Both versions 4.79
and 4.8 were produced from old (pre-Mozilla) code, specifically for
those users who prefer the 4.x client. It has bug fixes and feature
improvements that have earned it the reputation of the most stable and
versatile of the 4.x versions.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS - Netscape Communicator 4.8 for Mac
Mac OS 7.6.1 or greater is required to run Communicator 4.8.
Recommended minimum system hardware configurations:
Mac OS 7.6.1: 16MB physical RAM
Mac OS 8.0 or greater: 24MB physical RAM

NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR 6.23 FOR MAC

Preview versions of Navigator 6.x were initially released in 2000. The
preview versions were notoriously buggy. Consistent reliability and
stability was not achieved until version 6.23, released in May, 2002.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS - Netscape Navigator 6.23 for Mac
Mac OS 8.6 or later
PowerPC 604e 266 MHz or faster processor, or G3
64 MB RAM
36 MB of free hard disk space
Additional MAC OS Considerations:
"QuickTime is required before installing Netscape 6. If QuickTime is
disabled, Netscape 6 will not start.
There is a known conflict with Adobe Type Manager, which causes
windows to appear blank. Workaround: Uninstall ATM before you start
Netscape 6.
If you have version 5.5 (or earlier) of Stuffit Expander may see an
error message stating that the archive is corrupted. You can ignore
the message and continue with the installation. To get a newer version
of Stuffit Expander, go to

If you attempt to run Netscape 6 on Mac OS using a language pack (such
as the Japanese Language Pack) and a Language Kit, all menu bar items
will be incorrectly displayed. To resolve this problem, register
Netscape 6 using the Language Register. For instance, if you're using
the Japanese Language Pack and the Japanese Language Kit, register
Netscape 6 as a JA application.
If you use the SmoothType control panel instead of Apple's "Smooth all
fonts on screen" option in the Appearance control panel, you need
SmoothType version 2.1.1 for Netscape 6. Netscape 6 is not compatible
with earlier versions of SmoothType, and some pages may be improperly
drawn. To get an update, go to

In Netscape Mail, the import utility supports only Eudora and text files."
