Every time Windows starts up, and several times when opening programs,
I get a Windows Installer message coming up on the screen. I have
cleaned off all adware and spyware, have removed all on-line game
installations, I have checked the registry for startup installations,
exefile\shell\open\command paramaters and run several virus scans -
MSI install LOG is empty.
Operating system is WinXP Pro SP1a on Intel P4 system
I am running NAV2003, Zone Alarm, Adaware6.181, Spybot SD1.2 all
definitions, signatures and reflists are up to date.
What is causing this Installation? how can I fix it without clean installing?

Hi davea,

I have experienced the same problem. I need a bit more information to
help you though:

1. Is your XP OS an upgrade from a pervious operating system?

2. Does the installer always ask for the same program to install, or
does it vary. If so, which programs does it wish to install?

3. Is there a number in the error message box.

Please reply with clarification and I may be able to detail the source
of the problem.

Regards,

you can disable the windows installer service from control
panel->Administrative tools->services

then select windows installer service, stop-it and select the start-type as manual
