I've never seen the movie but I would like to know why two English
people came to rendezvous atop the Empire State Building.

Was there a nail-biting build-up?

Were there any other folk around at the time? Or was it empty-ish a la Sleepless?

Who arrived first?

And did one of them push the other over the parapet?

Or what?

Many thanks.

Howdy probonopublico~

In this famous film (the most popular version being from 1957), a
playboy named Nickie (Cary Grant) accidentally meets Terry, a girl
from Boston (Deborah Kerr) on a ship sailing to Europe. Terry is
engaged to a wealthy fellow who has ideas about changing her into ?the
perfect wife,? and Nickie is engaged to a beautiful, wealthy heiress.
As soon as Nickie and Terry meet, firecrackers start popping
(figuratively speaking, of course), and when the ship makes a stop,
Nickie decides to visit his grandmother and bring Terry along. It?s
during this visit that they realize they?re in love. But, they wonder,
is this for real, or is it just a reaction to wedding jitters? So they
decide to separate for six months. When exactly six months have
passed, they?ll meet atop the Empire State Building at 5pm sharp and
compare notes: Are they still in love?

Six months later, they?re still in love, and the viewer who loves
sentimental love stories is eager to see them meet, hug, kiss, declare
their love, and all that schmaltz. But as Terry is running eagerly to
the Empire State Building to meet Nickie, she?s hit by a car. Nickie
is left atop the building, feeling glum, and perhaps wanting to sock
the several tourists who pass by. Terry is paralyzed and refuses to
contact Nickie to explain the situation; she is determined to neither
see or talk to Nickie until she can walk again. Nickie spends the next
year of his life trying to find out what?s happened to Terry. Of
course, this being a chick flick, he finally finds her?at
Christmas?discovers she is paralyzed, declares his love anyway, and
(let?s not forget) gives her a shawl that his grandmother wanted her
to have. Love conquers all, and there?s not a dry eye in the house.

(sniff sniff)

Howdy Kriswrite

You ARE brilliant!

BUT ...

You failed to disclose your Search Strategy ...

This leads me to conclude that you must have used some Search Engine
other than the one we know and love.

And the salutation 'Howdy' ...

Really! You would never catch me using such an expression.

'Is it English', I ask myself.

Ah well, nobody's perfect.

Warmest regards

Bryan

Bryan~

Are you sure you're not one of our friendly Editors in disguise? It's
true I didn't include a search strategy...As you may have guessed I'm
one of those chicks who watched that flick.

Thanks for the tip! I do appreciate it. :)

Ohhhhhhh how I love this cornball classic movie.

I've occasionally been told that I resemble Deborah Kerr, so I can
imagine myself into the plot, which makes the situation even weepier.
Sniff.

Kriswrite did a *fabulous* job of synopsifying. And the "Howdy" made
perfect sense to me. Yee-haw.

Pink ... You resemble Debbie Kerr!!!

Moi, I'm a dead ringer for Cary Grant.

So, let's meet at the top of the you-know-where; you-know-when ...

But please, do watch out for the traffic.
