Hi, I love Nelson Demille's books. I'm looking for authors similar in
style to him. Specifically I like his witty/sacrastic characters (very
funny) and often his themes of spies/international politics. This is a
pretty subjective question, I'm looking for personal recomendations,
meaning I hope you'll have read the books. I just don't have enough
free time to find similar authors on my own. I'll accept a few
suggestions as an answer.

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with his works, personally, but I know that
Amazon.com "recommends" similar authors based on sales -- i.e.,
cusotmers who buy Demille's books also tend to buy works of other
authors such as:

Michael Connelly
David Baldacci

Amazon.com lists five authors in all that they consider closely
related to Demille's books.

Is this the type of info you're after, or are you strictly looking for
a personal recommendation of someone who's actually read Demille's
works?

Thank you for accepting my recommendations as the answer to your question.

This is, of course, a highly subjective matter. I am a great admirer
of Nelson Demille, and I find him quite unique, particularly in the
range of subject matter that his novels cover.

I've mentioned John Sandford's "Kidd" books and William Safire's
novels as being worth a try for a Demille fan.

Here are the four "Kidd" books by Sandford:

The Fool's Run

The Empress File
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0425135020

The Devil's Code
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0425179885

The Hanged Man's Song
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0399151397

And here are some 'star' Safires:

Full Disclosure
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0385121156

Sleeper Spy
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0517307146

Scandalmonger
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0684867192

Another author that comes to mind is Dennis Lehane. This isn't
international intrigue, but the characters are vivid, the action is
good, and the dialogue is clever:

The Patrick Kenzie/Angela Gennaro Series

Robert B. Parker, Robert Crais, Jonathan Kellerman and Carl Hiiasen
also write fiction with snappy dialogue and great plots.

I hope you'll find some enjoyable reading matter among my suggestions!
Thanks for the info about the "Lion's Game" sequel, "Night Fall." I am
going to make a beeline to the bookstore for that one as soon as it's
available. Can't get enough of John Corey!

Best wishes,
pinkfreud

Another goodie is George P. Pelecanos:

John Sandford (particularly in his "Kidd" novels) reminds me of Nelson
Demille. Sandford mixes intrigue and suspense with wise-cracking
characters very nicely.

Speaking of Demille, are you as eagerly awaiting a sequel to "The
Lion's Game" as I am? Or was there a sequel, and I missed it?

Have you ever read any of William Safire's fiction? There's a
cleverness to Safire that is somewhat Demille-ish.

Sounds interesting. I think I'll check these authors out.

I would be happy to accept those as an answer, I was just after one or
two names to try out.

Thank you!
