Question ID: 313985
I reformatted my hard drive and installed all my programs. I find that
when I use Audiograbber to make mp3?s from WAV files, it makes them
into WMA?s instead.

How can I get Audiograbber to make mp3?s instead of WMA?s?

Hi markabe-ga,

Try this:

Run Audiograbber. Open the Settings menu and select "MP3 Settings..."
Make sure "Internal Encoder" is selected in the panel at the bottom
of the MP3 Settings dialog box. Select "Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3
Codec (advanced)" in the drop-down list under "Internal Encoder." Up
at the top of the dialog box, in the "Grab to:" group, select one of
the MP3 radio buttons, that is, any but the "Wav file" button on the
top. Click OK and try it again.

These instructions are based on the current version 1.83 of
Audiograbber. If you have an older version, they may not apply.

Does the procedure above fix it?

efn,

Well, I went to the Audiograbber site and downloaded version 1.83.

When I went to the mp3 settings and selected the internal encoder,
there were three options:

- Microsoft Windows Media Audio Codec (WMA)
- Ogg Vorbis (libvorbis.dll) compiled July 19 2002
- Microsoft PCM Converter

"Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec (advanced)" was not available. I?m
90% certain that I used Fraunhofer when I used Audiograbber before, as
I remember the name.

Also, to clarify, when I grab tracks from a CD, I want it as a WAV
file, because I like to edit the tracks. After I?m finished with it,
then I want it as an mp3, which I make using the Make MP3? option from
the File menu.

Should I then leave "Grab to:" selected to WAV file?

Should I use one of the other internal codecs, or should I download Fraunhofer?

OK, I downloaded lame-3.95.1 ? France from

http://mitiok.free.fr/c.htm#1

I unpacked it and now I have a folder with a bunch of stuff in it.

What should I do with it now?

Copy or move the file named "lame_enc.dll" to the directory where you
have installed Audiograbber. Then when you run Audiograbber, the list
in MP3 Settings should have an entry for "LameEnc DLL." Select that
and you should be able to make MP3s. I don't think you need any of
the other files from the LAME distribution.

If this works, let me know, and I will try to synthesize an answer
that makes it look like I knew what I was doing all along.

efn,

I now have the Fraunhofer option on internal codec, which I selected,
so yes, it works fine now.

It looks like my installation of Audiograbber somehow tracked down the
LAME DLL that I had elsewhere on my disk. I assumed the MP3 encoder
had come with the program, but the help says it doesn't come with an
internal MP3 encoder.

Yes, if you want the file taken from a CD to be a WAV file, that's the
"Grab to:" option that should be selected.

I'd suggest you install the lame_enc.dll file as your MP3 encoder.
You can get it from:

http://mitiok.free.fr/

Hope this helps,

Congratulations, I'm glad you got it working.

I will assume my assistance was not worth the price of this question
unless you tell me otherwise.
