Why does UPN Channel 44 come in (via antenna) on my television's channel 100? What channel is WB Channel 20 supposed to be coming in on? Are all these misalignments listed somewhere? I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Thanks! |

Sometimes the local cable company leaks some signal into the air, or some other defective equipment nearby produces a signal on a different channel. If the former, cable customers in your neighborhood get channel 44 on cable channel 100. Ask some of them. Some of them will likely have a list that shows what they get on each cable channel. Some newer TVs may be different, but with most older ones, you select either cable or ant. then click on auto program. You can't get channel 100 on ant with most TVs designed for sale in the USA. Was your TV perhaps designed for use in some other country? The most likely explanation is: You think your TV is programed for antenna, but it is actually programed for cable. If you get a good picture on all the local channels on some channel, plus some extra channels you are geting a free bonus. Why complain? If it is cable leakage, the cable company may be willing to make repairs, even though you are not their customer, as leakage can get them in trouble with the FCC = Federal Communications Commision. Call customer service, tell them you think they are leaking signal in your neigborhood, then answer their questions as best you can. Neil |

It's possible that you have selected CATV instead of UHF/VHF as the input signal for your TV. Check the onscreen menu setup. It's also possible that Channel 44 has a repeater to rebroadcast on 100 that you are picking up. hlabadie-ga |

No I don't think my weird channels corresponded with local cable channels, at least not those of the people I asked. So that part's still a mystery. However, I did finally get the time to check out whether my tv input was programmed to cable instead of antenna. It wasn't easy, because this Sylvania set uses very different terminology. But I went thru every possible setting and when I came to "Channel set up: add/delete ch (catv)", I figured I must be getting warm. I managed to change that last part to (tv) and then I hit "auto-preset" and the channels all righted themselves!! We no longer get the interesting foreign stations, but that's ok. So thanks for your encouragement and advice! |
