Dear Ding,

I wrote to the Cleveland Museum of Art at info@clevelandart.org
inquiring about the painting "Ishmael" by Jean Charles Cazin.

Christine Edmonson, ILL Librarian, promptly responded with the
information you require.

She said that according the Dictionary of Art, the painting of
"Ishmael," exhibited and awarded a prize at the Paris Salon of 1880,
is currently located in the Musee des Beaux Arts, Tours, France (v.6,
p.122).

She also located a collection guide of the Tours museum and it is
illustrated there, titled as "Agar et Ishmael." It was originally in
the collection of the Musee du Luxembourg (part of the Louvre
collections), but was given to Tours in 1936 by the Louvre.

Here is the address for the French museum:

Search strategy:

The Rehs Galleries website provides a list of locations where Cazin?s
work can be seen. I then sent email inquiries to a couple of the
museums on the list asking about the location of Jean Charles Cazin?s
painting "Ishmael".

?Today, examples of Cazin's work can be seen in many of the major
public collections throughout the world including:

Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC.
Frick Art & Historical Center, Pittsburgh, PA.
Musée des Beaux-Arts, Arras
Musée des Beaux-Arts de Tours
Musée d'Orsay, Paris
Musée J. Charles Cazin, Samer
Musée National du Chateau de Versailles
The Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH.
The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA.
Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, CT.?
