I would like to know how to get imovie 3.0.3 to read my video tape. I
am using a Canon Optura 100 MC digital camcorder and a G4 cube with OS
10.2.8. The screen on imovie will say "camera connected" but when I
press the play button, no video appears. I tried downloading a new
copy of imovie 3 (and deleting all of the old files), shutting on and
off the computer & camera and disconnecting and connecting all the
wires. I also tried changing the preferences to "play video through to
camera." I checked my camera manual and the help function on imovie.
Nothing worked. I don't think the problem is with my camera since I
transferred tape from the camera to an imac this afternoon at a
workshop on editing. Any help will be appreciated.

Also, do you have an iSight, or other FireWire devices? If so, disconnect them.

Let me know if you get it to work, or if you can't get it to work.

Hi Supermacman,
You solved my problem!!! I went to the first web link you sent me and
found another link for the G4 cube. I found out that iMovie cannot
play or import clips from a DV camera if there aren't any speakers
connected to your Power Mac G4 Cube computer. Who would have thought
about the speakers!! Many thanks for helping me. I hope I can find you
again if I have another problem with my MAC. You are really great.
Best, Judy

Hello judyc-ga,

As you mentioned, camera import required that speakers be connected to
your Power Mac G4 Cube. I had recommended you consult these pages:

Supermacman was great. He responded right away with links that
provided helpful tips on how to find a solution to my dilemma. As soon
as I had time to read the tips and test them out I found a solution. I
also found new sources of info on my computers. Who could ask for
more? I hope to find supermacman again if I have a problem. Judy Clark
