Question ID: 314650
a friend has an old computer using windows 3.11 (yeehaw!) and the old
dot matrix she had with it finally bought the farm. I gave her an old Canon
BJ100 printer but have lost the driver. Her computer is incapable of
going online so I went to canon, downloaded the driver using my
computer but when I went
to put it on a 3.5 floppy for her, realized the download program is 3.1 mb-
what to do? How can I get this driver to her computer? She DOES NOT
have a cd drive! Is there a higher capacity floppy around? Is there
a way to force my computer to put the driver on 2 or more floppys?
open to ideas...

Have you tried using a file-splitting utility?

Never heard of any of these; learn something new everyday! I have
downloaded one, split the file and put it on 3 floppy disks. As soon
as I have the chance to install on my friend's computer, I will update
you with the result:)

Hope it helps!

Please keep us posted. I'll be pleased to post the file-splitting link
as the answer to your question if this does the trick. If not, we'll
keep trying.

Pinkfreud,

Thanks! While I can't say I really succeeded with this solution, the
reasons are too complicated and inappropriate to put on a public
board. Ultimately, another option was selected for reasons beyond my
control and my friend is now happy with what she has. However, I did
learn a new skill; I successfully split the file and loaded it onto 3
disks. So I now know how to split files and that's certainly worth $2
so please repost your clarificaition as the answer and accept payment.

I'm glad to hear that you were able to solve your problem through
other means. Although file-splitting utilities aren't generally needed
on an everyday basis, such a utility is a handy thing to keep around.
I've used a file-splitter more than once when transferring copies of
lengthy documents and music files that would not fit on a single
floppy. I only use the splitter maybe two or three times a year, but
when I need it, I'm glad it's there!

5 stars of course... I'd expect nothing else from an accomplished and
revered researcher as pinkfreud!
