First, here is the definition of the illustrators I get from web site.
http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos092.htm
Illustrators typically create pictures for books, magazines, and other
publications, and for commercial products such as textiles, wrapping
paper, stationery, greeting cards, and calendars. Increasingly,
illustrators work in digital format, preparing work directly on a
computer.
Medical and scientific illustrators combine drawing skills with
knowledge of biology or other sciences. Medical illustrators draw
illustrations of human anatomy and surgical procedures. Scientific
illustrators draw illustrations of animal and plant life, atomic and
molecular structures, and geologic and planetary formations. The
illustrations are used in medical and scientific publications and in
audiovisual presentations for teaching purposes. Medical illustrators
also work for lawyers, producing exhibits for court cases.
Here is the difination of the graphic designers:
http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos090.htm
Graphic designers plan, analyze, and create visual solutions to
communications problems. They use a variety of print, electronic, and
film media and technologies to execute a design that meet clients?
communication needs. They consider cognitive, cultural, physical, and
social factors in planning and executing designs appropriate for a
given context. Graphic designers use computer software to develop the
overall layout and production design of magazines, newspapers,
journals, corporate reports, and other publications. They also produce
promotional displays and marketing brochures for products and
services, design distinctive logos for products and businesses, and
develop signs and signage systems?called environmental graphics?for
business and government. An increasing number of graphic designers are
developing material for Internet Web pages, computer interfaces, and
multimedia projects. Graphic designers also produce the credits that
appear before and after television programs and movies.
We are doing some research on the illustration market. We would like
to know how many illustrators(all types) in USA/Europe if possible.
These illustrators may use Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or other
software to accomplish their job. We also would like to know what is
the top 5 software they use for design. We know a lot of illustrators
use Mac. So we would like to know how many illustrators are using PC
as their platform. If you think it is still too general, then will the
question "how many Adobe illustrator/Photoshop PC users?" make it
better?
BTW,
