I am looking for an inexpensive (but legal, of course) anti-virus
solution for Windows 2000 server for our small business in Canada. 
Does not need to be 'state of the art' but the cost of software quoted
to me blows our budgets to the extent I am thinking of doing without
-- just relying on daily backup tapes. But maybe there is a good
answer out there.

We are currently running about five computers; the server license is
for 10.  When operating properly, I anticipate that initially two
computers will be accessing the server from remote locations.  This
server is for intranet use only -- we are hosting our web site and
email through our ISP.

BTW, our software license is 100% legal though the cost to us was far
below regular retail.

I have been using it for Wind 2k Server and it works pretty well. And
it is available for purchase online. It is available for less then
$50.

If you are looking for realtime file scanning then it serves the
purpose. But it can not scan network data transfer on the fly (Many
other Server  side scanners can scan emails even before they are
deposited in user mailboxes)

What is it that you are trying to do with the win2K server?  If your
under a budget who talked you into running win2k, lol. You did
purchase it didn't you?  Anyway you can view my antic-virus
implementation at http://www.corelabs.ca it is a personal web server,
lol really!  I run a sweet little ASP thru Linux hack setup that works
beauty like.  That's where you solution is, keep the toys in the
garage.  I mean that in the best of ways.  I really appreciate the
ease of use of some of the applications produced for win32 but you
have no command line, you have no control and you don't get much
source code.  So how then given the previously heretofore mentioned
point would you even be inclined to block a delinquent address from
flooding your machine with virus-ridden requests?  It really is a
messy net of unappreciated depreciated requests for files in file
systems that don't exist.  Not funny though the majority seem to be
from delinquent IIs servers spawning the trailing entrails of code red
scourge across the net oblivious to the cause of productive bandwidth
lost and not to the pockets of those involved with virus production or
protection.

Windows -->  Closed Source --> Proprietary -->  Not Configurable.

Hopefully the picture makes itself clear.  You have way more middlemen
in the picture with the windows soulution pollution.  Compare and
Contrast:

Linux --> Open Source -->  GPLD -->  Highly Customizable.

Again the solution should be right before your eyes.  Place a simple
little box running some linux out in front of the server and let it
handle most of the work.  Reinstall your win2k and try not to install
anything to do with outlook.  Don't install ie:  if you can help it,
not :(to or not to be facetious but really do have to ask yourself and
PLUG Google "Can I trust some applications?")  If you haven't answered
that question well come back when you have.  Now if you need mail on
the internal lan by this point use hotmail for starters and research
more creative ways of using the different delivery methods.  That
should pretty much solve it.  If your following along now you should
be dropping packets off your eth0 interface like white on rice if they
are code red otherwise you should be sleeping quite soundly knowing
that now your system is at least free from most scourge depending upon
your spidy internet sense and usage thereof.  Any questions just ask
