Question ID: 315120
I own a very successful on line "How to start a home craft business"
company and I offer packages, info, e books, tools, video training etc
to people that want to start this particular type of business from
there home. My packages cost about $1500 for a complete home craft
business with supplies, training etc.
This is a real business with successful students and a great support
system to keep them motivated and successful with all the tools
necessary. Its not a fly by night internet scam just wanted to clarify
this. Im very concerned about my customers and want to help them as
much as I can. The problem i am having is that many disabled people,
home moms, minorities etc would like to purchase my home craft
business package but don't have the funds. Im not interested in SBA
info what I what is the Name of a grant, agency, or federal program
that will assist these people with financial help to buy my business
package. I need it all written out with contacts, state, e mail,
website, and a bit about the criteria to get this financial help. If
possible broken down by state. The more info the better. But keep in
mind this is a very small home business with just a small amount of
start up needed and many agencies such as the SBA dont normally lend
small amounts for this.--------This info will then be put into my
website for reference for people that need this help.----------I know
that many state vo tech agencies do this for the mentally ill, etc. I
dont think there is no one agency that does this but many agencies
that cover different areas of need.

I also understand that the military, army, navy have some home
businesses trainging etc that they will fund if that company is
approved as an officially approved agency.

Hello BigBruiser?

Thank you for your question. I found a lot of good information for you
to answer your question.

I will break out each of the points you make in your question and
respond accordingly and will provide a list of loans available to your
potential customers for you to help them start their own businesses. I
will then offer you a number of other websites you may find of
interest.

There are many sources of loans for small businesses in the size range
about which you?re seeking. Many will require some sort of collateral
by the loan seeker; others will not.

I would first recommend that you point prospective small business
owners to the SCORE Association. SCORE is a non-profit group dedicated
to entrepreneur education and the formation and success of small
businesses across the country. Both working and retired business
executives donate their time and expertise to provide confidential
business counseling free of charge.

You may find links to 389 SCORE chapter websites online. The link is
http://www.score.org/findscore/localinks.html

There are some parts of the country that don?t have SCORE chapters
nearby. If you don?t immediately see your region on the above link,
you may search for a chapter online. The link is
http://www.score.org/findscore/chapter_maps.html

I know you?re looking for non-SBA-related loans. But I must tell you
that even though many of the loans I?ll throw your way are independent
of the SBA, most small business loans do go through the SBA in one way
or another. This is because typically in communities the SBA acts as a
clearinghouse of sorts for any small business loans. They?ll look at a
client?s needs and try to match them with the best sources for income.
Most communities also have loans offered through individual city and
county governments that cater specifically to small, small, small
businesses such as the dollar figure your clients would be seeking.
Your clients should contact their individual town economic development
office to find out what specific loans their area governments can help
with.

You or your clients will want to form a detailed business plan for
their individual craft businesses. Any lender is going to want to see
a detailed proposal that outlines exactly what their plans of attack
will be, how the business will be profitable, and when it will be
profitable. SCORE or the SBA can help you or your clients gather
information needed to create a sound business plan. BusinessPlans.org
also offers some good information about creating a business plan. The
link to that site is http://www.businessplans.org/

You wrote, ?The problem I am having is that many disabled people,
home moms, minorities etc would like to purchase my home craft
business package but don't have the funds. I?m not interested in SBA
info. what I what is the Name of a grant, agency, or federal program
that will assist these people with financial help to buy my business
package. I need it all written out with contacts, state, e mail,
website, and a bit about the criteria to get this financial help. If
possible broken down by state.?

This is a common problem you?re having. I?ve assembled a list of
non-profit organizations across the country that accept applications
for small business loans. The loans these non-profit organizations
help small business owners are on the small dollar level only. While
the loans your clients would be seeking would be on the small end of
what these organizations assist with, these groups are ones your
clients should contact. I?m breaking them down by the name of the
non-profit organization, the address and state, and all contact
information, including websites if available.

The loans offered by these groups are called MicroLoans. The average
loan size is about $10,500, but smaller loans are certainly available!
With this type of loan, your client would need to contact the agency
in their area listed below and tell them they?d like to apply for
their MicroLoan Program. Collateral may be needed for these loans, but
the money is there to be lent to your potential craft-company owners.

MicroLoans are available in a maximum of six-year terms. Interest
rates for these loans vary greatly, depending on the costs by the
lenders. In addition, each MicroLoan lender listed below has its own
requirements in terms of collateral and credit rating required to
acquire the loan. All will require the personal assurance of the
business owner that he or she will pay the loan back.

Your clients may also find it better to acquire an unsecured small
business loan. There are many lenders that can assist with this, but
they typically do require a high credit rating.

BusinessCashAdvance says it can provide all levels of loans to all
types of businesses. You may access this company online. The link is
http://businesscashadvance.com

AmericaOneUnsecured offers unsecured loans of all types. You may read
more about this company online. The link is

You wrote, ?I know that many state vo tech agencies do this for the
mentally ill, etc. I don?t think there is no one agency that does this
but many agencies that cover different areas of need.?

You are absolutely correct. Different states offer different loans and
programs to those with disabilities to start businesses.

First, you should know about publications published by the U.S.
Department of Education that can help those with disabilities file for
the money they need for small businesses and other financial needs.
You may view the list of publications on the Department of Education?s
website. The link is
http://www.ed.gov/policy/speced/guid/rsa/techassis-circular.html?exp=0

I located a list of state organizations that offer programs for those
with disabilities. They're broken down by state with all relevant
contact information. You may view this list online through the
Department of Education?s website. The link is
http://www.jan.wvu.edu/SBSES/VOCREHAB.HTM

You further wrote, ?I also understand that the military, army, navy
have some home businesses training etc that they will fund if that
company is approved as an officially approved agency.?

This is absolutely true. The program is called the DANTES Tuition
Assistance Management Program. It funds education and training for
former and current military personnel in approved areas by approved
agencies.
Students can read about how to apply for the program online. The link
is http://www.dantes.doded.mil/dantes_web/tuitionassistance/InfoForStudents.htm
Educational Offices can read about how to apply to have training they
offer covered under this program. The link is
http://www.dantes.doded.mil/dantes_web/tuitionassistance/InfoForEdOffices.htm
Institutions can read about how to apply to have training they offer
covered under this program. The link is

In addition, you may find information on the DANTES homepage helpful.

Further, there are some loan programs available to former military
personnel. ?The 7(a) Loan Guaranty Program?. provides loans to small
businesses unable to secure financing on reasonable terms through
normal lending channels. The program operates through private-sector
lenders that provide,? according to the SBA. You may read more about
this loan program online. The link is
http://www.sba.gov/financing/sbaloan/7a.html

The 7(a) Loan program requires that ?the applicant must first be
eligible. Repayment ability from the cash flow of the business is a
primary consideration in the SBA loan decision process but good
character, management capability, collateral, and owner's equity
contribution are also important considerations. All owners of 20
percent or more are required to personally guarantee SBA loans.?

The Prequalification Pilot Loan Program, according to the SBA, ?uses
intermediaries to assist prospective borrowers in developing viable
loan application packages and securing loans. Once the loan package is
assembled, it is submitted to the SBA for expedited consideration; a
decision usually is made within three days. If the application is
approved, the SBA issues a letter of prequalification stating the
SBA's intent to guarantee the loan. The maximum amount for loans under
the program is $250,000; the SBA will guarantee up to 80 percent for
loans up to & including $100,000 and 75 percent for loans over
$100,000. The intermediary (usually a Small Business Development
Center) then helps the borrower locate a lender offering the most
competitive rates. Small Business Development Centers serving as
intermediaries do not charge a fee for loan packaging. For-profit
organizations will charge a fee.? You may read more about this program
online. The link is http://www.sba.gov/financing/sbaloan/prequalification.html

A good article that may be of interest is "Overview of Financing
Options.? You may read this article online. The link is

A good website dedicated to entrepreneurs has links to many articles
sorted into different financing categories like angel, venture, and
loans. All these cater to small businesses.

You may access the list of articles on this site from conventional
sources online. The link is
http://www.entreworld.org/Channel/SYB.cfm?Topic=FincSrcs

You may access the list of articles on this site from lenders online.
The link is http://www.entreworld.org/Channel/SYB.cfm?Topic=FincLoan

You may access the list of articles on this site for angel loans
online. Entrepreneurial concerns that don't have collateral and are
less likely to secure bank loans are good candidates for ?angel?
funding. Angels are private individuals who invest in promising
starting businesses. The link is
