I'm working on a paper about a women artists. I would really like to
find a really good timeline that I could use to see what was going on
around the world at the times these women were alive - in history and
among other artists. I have searched but I can't find one.

Dear webweaverlady-ga,
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has a very comprehensive Timeline of
Art History. As a resource, I don't think that you could find a better
one than this ? problem is, it only goes up to 1800 (the remainder is
still under research). I advise you to read the 'first time users
guide' before launching into the site.

To cover the missing years, this source will be of assistance.

Timelines on different subjects including the People, Events, History and the Arts.

I hope this answers your question. If it does not, or the answer is
unclear, then please ask for clarification of this research before
rating the answer. I shall respond to the clarification request as
soon as I receive it.
Thank you

The most comprehensive timeline I have ever seen on the internet is
available through the Wikipedia. The Wikipedia is an online
encyclopedia in which any site user can contribute to the
encyclopedia's content; because there are many, many people that
contribute to each encyclopedia entry, it's amazingly comprehensive
and very accurate.

The main page of the timeline is available here:
To navigate to information about a specific century, decade, or year,
you can use the links at the bottom of the page. For example, if I
wanted to find information about the 1870s, I would first click the
link for "20th AD." That would bring me to this page:
There, I would find general information about the ninteent century
(1800s), as well as links (scroll down to the bottom of the page or
click on "Decades and Years" in the table of contents) to each decade
and year of the ninteenth century. Clicking on "1870s" would take me
to a page of general information about the 1870s
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1870s), and clicking on a specific year
in the 1870s (ie 1873) would take me to a list of important
dates/events in that year.

I think that the other timelines that you've been directed to might be
easier to navigate, but if need anything more comprehensive or if you
need information from years that aren't covered by those timelines,
give the Wikipedia a try.
