The scissor kick is used in the sidestroke in swimming. Is there a
diagram of the steps or a demo of the kick?

I found video files, that you can view using RealPlayer, that show the
sidestroke from above the water and underwater. Will this suffice?

The question is about the scissor kick and the steps to follow to do
it correctly. For example, how far are the heels supposed to come up
and do the legs split as they leave and do they come together
extended? Are the knees bent and when? Video files would not show the
detail steps that a step diagram would, besides I do not have
RealPlayer whatever that is.

Sidestroke

Begin by floating with the hand you write with facing the bottom of
the pool (if you are ambidextrous, make a choice). Start a scissors
kick, which is: one leg forward and bent at about a 90 degree angle to
the upper leg, and one leg backward and bent. Move them together in
rapid "cutting" motions. Practice! Do a similar motion with your arms.
