I recently attended a San Francisco Early Music Society performance.
The encore peice was a trotto, music from the 14th century. It was
played on a
recorder by Dan Laurin. The trotto was wonderful and I would like to
find a CD recording of the piece. I checked and Dan has not recorded
it. Could
you find a it for me please.

Dear theoraa,

Does this piece resemble what you heard?

yes it does sound a bit like the trotto i heard...but my recollection
is that it had a kind of islamic ...or middle eastern feel....it
actually sounded so ancient that my heart started to pound and i got
goose bumps...this piece
sounds a little too jaunty
thanks

It appears from the information in the page linked below that in 1995
Laurin did indeed record an anonymously created piece entitled
"Trotto" on a CD called "Recorder Graffiti." That CD, although
apparently out of print, is available from a private seller offering
it at the Amazon.com site for $6.99. I have not found an audio sample
of that recording, however.

Here is the link:

You can click on the American flag icon to get to the relevant Amazon.com page.

If you hadn't said that you have determined that Laurin had not
recorded the piece that interests you, I would have guessed that the
piece on the CD might well be the one you are seeking. Are you sure
that this is not the right "Trotto"?
