My computer (Pentium 3, runs Windows 98) has recently developed a
problem but I don't know why. I would like this problem solved:
Whenever I click on anything regarding settings, e.g. desktop, mouse,
date/time, i.e anything in Control Panel, the following error message
comes up: "Access to the specified device, path or file is denied."
All I can do is click OK and it returns me to the Control Panel.
Basically, I can't do anything from Control Panel any more. Help!

Hi denverbloke,

Your RUNDLL32.EXE may be corrupted. Running your System File Checker
may fix it, or you can do it manually.

Run your SFC:
START / RUN / TYPE sfc / CLICK OK / SCAN FOR ALTERED FILES / START

Manually:
Download RUNDLL32.EXE (Win98 & Win98 SE)
http://home.bendcable.com/CooperSoft/Patch/RUNDLL32.EXE
- Right-click on the downloaded file and select COPY.
- START / RUN / type C:\WINDOWS / ENTER
- Right-click in the Windows folder that opened, select PASTE.
If prompted to overwrite the file, answer 'Y'(YES).

Please let us know how that goes -

Sounds like someone has tinkered with the group settings and taken
away certain adminstrative privilages from your account. Does anyone
else share your computer?

Hummer-ga,
Thanks so much. I hardly know anything about computers but I followed
your clear directions and it worked! I'm so happy!! And for only 50
cents!

PS Nobody had tinkered with it to my knowledge; it is in my home.
