Well, I can certainly see why you're having trouble finding this
company!

Though there are many companies called Solidex, it appears that
Solidex, as a tripod company, has gone out of business. The below
posting on a newsgroup is one of several by people looking for the
company between 1996-1999.

"I have heard the company went out of business. I am beginning to
believe
it because I can't find any stores which carry this brand."

This site has a reference and link to the former site, but as you can
see, it takes you to a new company
http://www.techlynx.com.au/solidex.htm

Every other reference to Solidex went the same way. Nowhere.

My recommendation would be to have the tripod repaired at any major
camera store. I know that Ritz Camera in the US for example repairs
tripods without regard to brand name. Outside the US, I am not
familiar with major stores.

Here is a site which can guide you in making some simple repairs to
your own tripod:
http://www.gerryellis.com/discover/ballhead.htm

Also, maybe you have a local science store that sells telescopes. They
may offer repair of such items as tripods.

I've done a comprehensive search of the internet to try to track down
Solidex for you, but as I said, there seems to be little trace of the
company as a manufacturer of tripods. I hope that the additional
information I've supplied to you gets you closer to having your tripod
repaired.

Thanks for using Google Answers –

Try That Link One More Time -

The Australian link <http://www.techlynx.com.au/solidex.htm> that
knowledge_seeker discovered above opens to a "TechLynx" page with the
following text:

"Solidex - The Right Choice

www.solidex.com.tw

Key Products
- NoteBook Cases / Bags
- Video Camera Cases / Bags
- Video Camera Tripods"

If you just click on the "www.solidex.com.tw" link on TechLynx' page,
it leads to a page for Asante computer products, apparently a dead
end.

However, if you copy and paste the *text* of this link into your
browser's address box and submit it, you go directly to the Solidex
home page at:

Solidex
http://www.solidex.com.tw/index1.htm

"Solidex offers the worlds widest range of notebook carrying cases
,photo, video, and Audio-Video accessories. For example, the notebook
cases range features more than 40stylish models for ultimate
protection of your precious mobile equipment and necessities."

This looks like the right place. Here is their contact information:

Tel: 886-2-2703-5721
Fax: 886-2-2708-0592
E-mail: tony.tseng@solidex.com.tw

Email Mr. Tseng and ask him about repairing your tripod.

Check for Solidex Dealers & Distributors in the USA -

The "Photo Marketing Association International" [PMAI], based in the
United States, is the world's largest association of imaging
(photographic and video) manufacturers and distributors. If anyone
knows about Solidex distributors in the States, PMAI will.

Their "Information Central" department accepts photo industry-related
questions via an online form:

1. Go to the PMAI home page
(http://www.pmai.org/new_pma/1028/default.asp)
2. Click on the "Info Request" tab.
3. Fill out the "PMA Information Central" request form, and ask if
they know of any manufacturers or distributors of "Solidex" tripods or
accessories.

You can also email them at <pma_information_central@pmai.org>, or
contact them at the following address/phone:

Check With a Retail Video Dealer -

The following retail video shop lists "Solidex" video accessories
(http://www.camcor.com/products/SOLIDEX.html), including a tripod.
They should be able to tell you the name of their wholesale supplier
in the United States:
