It's used as part of "Wood Badge" training for Boy Scout leaders. It
refers back to Gilwell Field, a clearing on an estate outside of
London called Gilwell Park where, in 1919, Sir Robert Baden-Powell
began training Scouters. Today, wherever a Wood Badge training course
is held, an area is designated as Gilwell Field - a virtual link to
the original.

The concept of "working the ticket" comes from the fact that, at that
time, military men were expected to pay their own way home after being
discharged from service. To make the journey cost less, soldiers would
look for transfers to locations closer and closer to home as they
neared the end of their service - this was know as "working your
ticket."

In today's training courses, participants leave with a list of
"tickets" or assignments to be done to complete their training. They
"work their ticket" back to Gilwell.

This song is taught at all Wood Badge training classes worldwide. The
order of patrols is significant - there are standards for them in each
country. In the US, they go: Beavers, Bobwhites, Eagles, Foxes, Owls,
Bears, Buffaloes, Antelopes, Ravens, Crows, Wolves, Hawks, Carsons,
Bridgers, Clarks, Boones, and "Staffers" - those teaching the course.
