Dear Marge,

It is not clear from your question - do you want to become a
registered dietitian or a dietetic technician (which are the two
recognised professions by ADA/CADE), or something else?

Did you already receive the required education? Could you please tell
us the region, where you want to receive your course?

Marge -

Since different States have different law in that matter, it would be
helpful if you told us where you want to practice as a dietitian.

I am asking this question because my daughter has graduated from an
accredited college with a dietitian degree. She has taken the
national test 7 times to become a registered dietitian and she cannot
pass it. She is currently living in Salt Lake. She has completed a
prep class in Dallas last year. I am looking for a private tutor. If
they exist, she could go to one this summer. Thank you. Marge

Dear Marge,

I'll try to find something for your daughter. In the meanwhile, do you
think your daughter could have some learning disability? If has
dyslexia or other such problems, she might get mroe time, or other
help that would help her pass the test.

Marge - I believe that ADA recommends/requires additional college
coursework if someone fails the exam three times (after the third
attempt, before a fourth attempt can be made). I would recommend that
you review the information posted at www.eatright.org about this
policy. Also, what type of program did your daughter complete - was
there planned clinical experiences, etc. Her best bet is to work in
the field (as a supervisor, etc) and develop a work relationship with
a practicing clinican to serve/act as a mentor. I have seen this type
of 'hands on' learning help in similar cases.
